Week One at the Princeton Y

This week, campers in Critter U!, Discovery, and MVP had a blast!  The theme of the camp was “Blast off to the Summer”, and campers were able to experience a wide range of activities.
Specialty Camp featured this week was Critter University.  Critter U! campers learned about a variety of different animals, while making nw human and animal friends.  Monday the big project was a Jungle Mural.  The kids laid out a ten foot piece of paper and worked together to paint a jungle scene.  Other crafts made by the Critters included Animal Frames and “Fossils”.  On Wednesday, Ms. Checkers, an African penguin from Jenkinson’s Aquarium, came for a visit and campers learned all about a penguin's habitat, anatomy and daily life.  Thursday the campers took a trip to Howell Farms and were able to shuck corn by hand for the hogs.  Critter U! Senior Counselor Jill recounted the trip to the farm.  “[The kids] did wonderful with the farm animals… and they Friday they get to adopt an endangered animal!”  Today, Critter U! goes to the Princeton Library to adopt their pet online!

“Blast off to the Summer” was the theme for ths week for Discovery Camp.  Every afternoon, the campers made a different project during the All Camp Activity.  Some of these projects were Rocket ships, Aliens, and Astronauts the kids made out of cardboard tubes and paint, yoga balls, buckets and toilet paper and their own counselors, respectively.  Explorer Counselor Danielle explained what she was looking forward to the most this summer: “The barbeques! The kids all seem to enjoy those barbeques and water slides.  You never have a complaint when they’re there!”  Today, there is a special surprise for the Discovery Campers: a moon bounce!

MVP campers this week played all different kinds of sports, ranging from major league sports to ones less known.  Each day, campers played a different sport, according to the schedule.  Monday, campers were welcomed with Basketball Day.  Tuesday’s sport was hockey, followed on Wednesday by baseball, and Thursday brought handball.  Head Counselor Kenny said that the best part of camp this week was “teaching all the kids how to play sports and the ways of MVP.  That was definitely the best part.”  Today is Campers vs. Counselors day, where all day each different sport is played with campers showing what "they got" against their counselors.  Click Here for Pictures of Camp MVP!

Next week! Campers have a list of activities to look forward to.  Camp MVP will experience a week full of sports, from Lacrosse to Disc Day.  At the end of the week, campers will have a Barbeque along with a water slide!  The Specialty Camp will be “Camp Chefs”.  Campers will learn how to cook and create different foods, and take a trip to a local restaurant and farmers market to learn even more.  The theme for next week’s Discovery Camp is “Party in the USA”, and at the end of the week, get ready for an All-American Celebration and Barbeque!
