MVP came to camp Monday morning ready to give it their all during this week full of sports and athletic activities. The first day of the week was all about Baseball. The group learned all about this sport and how to play it; from how to run for the ball, to how to swing and hit it. It didn’t take long for them to know exactly how the game worked, and they got the hang of it very quickly. They ran and swung like real champs.
Next the campers played Ultimate Frisbee, also learning the ways of the game first. The campers became extremely happy when they made their good throws and catches. They ran for hours doing this and down the field and they were playing the game great. The kids learned the rules and ways of this game even more quickly than they did with baseball! This game is very similar to football only with some twists. When you get passed the Frisbee, you must stand in place and pass from there. The good thing is there is no tacking; the defense is trying to predict the pass, and try to intercept it, or block it. So instead of throwing footballs, it was Frisbees, and the kids were throwing and catching their ways to the end zone for some fun, clean, competition.
On Wednesday, the campers played games of Quidditch. What better way is there to prepare for the final Harry Potter movie, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2?” Campers were divided up into teams of the four houses used in Harry Potter series: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Counselors Scott and Kevin had turns being the “snitch” and had selected “catchers” among the campers to try and catch the counselors. In Quidditch, the “snitch” is the most important ball because when you catch this ball, the game is over. This ball is only gone after the “catchers” who maybe considered the most important players, because only they can end the game. Although they were without brooms, the campers were still able to play the game well and really got into the spirit.
After that, the kids spent the next day playing Soccer. Although the day was very hot, their moves were even hotter! They had great games and entertaining plays as the campers where able to dribble with a lot of control and even throw in some fakes. There were also nice passes and a couple headers that kept this game great. The teams got to handle the ball and they went all out to try to win as many games as possible. The campers scored goals often and each was followed by a burst or cheers from teammates. Games were nice and fair had the kids running and having fun.
Next week is to be no less exciting as this one as we expect to have the kids dribble their way with Hockey, run with Lacrosse, go Bowling, and many other summer games!
