Go Green or Bust

This week is one of learning and a ton of fun! Campers this week will have their heads filled with knowledge of fun, new, and easy ways to keep the planet cleaner, healthier, and happier!
Discovery started off the week with a lot of added spice to their wardrobe. The kids dressed in trash bags with a whole new kind of fashion and excitement.  Campers stole the show as they walked up and down the runway and displayed their magnificent outfits. The fashion show was a hit and taught the kids to reuse material for our planet. Not only this, but Discovery also went even more green with a nature scavenger hunt. The group went on the search for many natural, reusable, and recyclable materials, such as leaves, sticks, bottles, paper, cups, etc. Super Science took the gold home, as they were the first to finish this hunt.
MVP got a lot of running done this week, as they started the week by learning the dynamics of baseball. This group was taught how to run for the ball, and how swing. Many of the kids got great hit-and-runs and enjoyed themselves. There was also junior games for the younger kids, so they too could have fun as they learned to correctly play the sport.  These campers then moved on to ultimate Frisbee, also learning the correct way to play, and had a blast playing. The most exciting part of MVP’s week, was surely on Wednesday. The campers got into the Harry Potter spirit, with a fun game of Quidditch! They were divided into groups from the Harry Potter series, and were taught how to play. These kids quickly got the hang of the game, and even though they had no brooms, they were running around and using teamwork to do their best.
Leadership did activities to teach the kids about cooperation and planning skills on Monday and Tuesday. They also discussed how to overcome conflict. Their counselor taught them how to plan for big events like planning a trip because they might have to do that in the future. They also went the Franklin Institute for the kids to appreciate what the museum has to offer. This is a science museum in Philadelphia to teach science education and development throughout history. The kids came back to Princeton, with their heads bursting with new knowledge!
Super Science has learned about the water cycle. With the help of senior counselor Jill and her great diagram of the water cycle on the white board, she taught them about the rocks at the bottom of bodies of water and how they settle. To demonstrate they used Gatorade bottles. They first added Sand to their bottles, followed by pebbles, then plaster, and at last the water. The kids quickly understood what was going on and had fun throughout the entire experiment.
