Week 7 - Ahoy Mates!

Week 7's theme is Ahoy Mates, full of pirates, treasure maps, pirate ships, and more!

Discovery Camp ended Week 6 with a barbeque and a goodbye to Mr. Paul. We, the Princeton YMCA, thank Mr. Paul for how much energy he put into our campers. We will miss you Mr. Paul! Today is the first day Mr. Allan, the Director of MVP, did community with the campers. Throughout this week, the campers will construct pirate ships, which will be placed in a racing competition on Friday in the Princeton YMCA pool. Today, the campers will be playing numerous activities such as Capture the Flag. In Arts and Crafts, the campers are starting off their pirate-themed week with making treasure maps.

MVP is playing fun games and learning about good sportsmanship. Not only do they show good sportsmanship to each other, they are incorporating this important quality into their sports. Today, the MVP campers are learning the rules of floor hockey. Tomorrow, they will play a handball-like sport called Tchoukball. On Wednesday, along with the rest of campers at the Y, the kids will enjoy traveling to Point Pleasant beach and boardwalk, where they will have an ocean-full of fun. MVP campers will be a playing a variety of games, consisting of running around the big field in front of the Seminary. Last, but certainly not least, all campers will be sailing cardboard boats, which they will be working on everyday this week, clearly displaying their dedication. Let's go out there and have some fun this week!

Leadership Academy ended off last Friday with a successful bake sale to raise funds for Christine's Hope for Kids. They are starting a new session this week with four newcomers and are kicking off Monday morning by playing a "get to know you" ice-breaker along with talking about what leadership means. Campers will also be brainstorming ways to bring in school supplies for Christine's Hope for Kids and discussing what type of leader they see themselves as. On Tuesday, Leadership will be heading back to the Princeton Presbyterian Church to help out with the crisis food ministry's food drive. Campers will also be doing team building activities. Wednesday is a beach day for them and a time for some Leadership Academy fun and bonding. Stay tuned to our blog for updates about what activities and exercises Leadership has coming up for the rest of the week.

Congratulations to our blog sweepstakes winner, camper Gianna! She received a gift certificate to a cool local eatery. This week's sweepstakes image is up, a pirate ship, so email us at PrincetonYMCAsummercamps@gmail.com with your entries and you could be our winner next week!
