Friday Leadership Academy

This week the Leadership Academy has been using their leadership skills to shadow the camp counselors and learn what it takes to be one. Each group member got to go with a counselor to their assigned group and help them with their daily routine. These Leadership Academy campers got the hands-on experience of being with and organizing activities for the campers. This taught the leaders in training about responsibility. Not only are they responsible for themselves but for their campers that they are watching. Other people rely on them to do the best that they can. At the end of their Thursday afternoon, they also played with water balloons to cool off. They even threw one at their counselor Matt! Today they went to the Zoo to explore all of the different animals with the Around the World Specialty Camp. This will be a great experience for them to see the animals around the world and practice group organization with the younger campers. Camper Simon said “We got to see underwater animals, reptiles and gorillas and it was fun to look after the specialty campers.” Next week the campers will be helping out with Discovery’s theme Hometown Heroes. They will be helping with a back to school drive for the foundation Christine’s Hope for Kids. These leaders are doing a great thing for the Princeton Family YMCA.
